Minh Hiền and Farshid have hosted the My Heritage Book Talk with Patti Miller and Margaret Eldridge AM for UNHCR fundraising on Friday 23 June 2017 from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM in Drummoyne, Sydney. The program consisted of speeches by MC Trí Tuệ and Farshid (10 minutes each); keynote speech by Patti Miller (author of best-selling autobiographical books and Australia's most experienced life-writing teacher - 20 minutes); a conversation about My Heritage between Minh Hiền and Margaret Eldridge AM (Minh Hiền’s first English teacher who taught her English in 1981 - 20 minutes); a book reading by Minh Hiền and her niece, Ellyse, (10 minutes); refreshments (simple Vietnamese dishes) and conversations among guests of diverse cultures and backgrounds. We are delighted to have 30 attendees of diverse backgrounds at the My Heritage book talk. It was a warm and memorable evening, meeting new and old friends, listening to Patti Miller’s excellent speech, the conversation between Margaret Eldridge AM and author Minh Hiền and sweet voice of Ellyse (Minh Hiền’s niece) reading the myth of bánh chưng. The gross proceeds of sales, $350, have been donated to the UNHCR. About My Heritage: In 1981, when seventeen-year-old Minh Hiền fled Việt Nam in a tiny fishing boat to seek peace, freedom and education, she left behind her parents, her safety and her customs. Through the rough waters, she carried a rich culture and the stories of three generations in her heart, which she now shares in her memoir, My Heritage: Việt Nam fatherland motherland.
